Thailand is a Buddhist country, and although there is some Christianity here, I really didn’t expect anything special for Christmas celebrations and definitely wasn’t thinking there would be a slew of free buffets and elf costumes running about the streets. Stop at a bar, grab a couple plates of free and delicious northern Thai food and a beer and then continue on down the street.
You should check out the night bazaar in town, which has a stage and live music, then make your way to the bars. There you will be met with blasting rap and party music, red sweaters and Santa hats, shots all around and people yelling “Merry Christmas!”
Who would guess that it would be like this…Thais are the most fun people in the world and are quick to hop on board any excuse to party.
We would love to have you join us at Retire In Chiang Rai for next Christmas.
